What We Now Know

Cami was left to be found by someone when she was less than 24 hours old. Interestingly, she was placed at the entrance gate of Xiajiang County Civil Affairs Bureau. This building houses offices involved in the final steps of international adoption. Placing a baby at the gate of this building seems to indicate a hope that she might be adopted.

Cami was found lying in a paper carbon box, with a bottled of mixed milk beside her. She was wearing a yellow dress with flowers on it. Because of her cleft lip and palate, she was not able to drink from the bottle. Her family was likely poor and had no access to cleft bottles. Someone made a quick and painful decision to leave the baby where she might be found by others who could help her. It was a decision that probably saved Cami's life.
